One of them took the baseball bat from the attacker and pinned it to the ground with his foot to prevent her from picking it up and attacking Barboza again.  However, it was too late.

She had already been gravely injured. Her nose was broken and she ended up getting seven stitches in her head which was bleeding profusely due to the attack with the baseball bat.

She also got seven staples on her head.  After people intervened the women made it look like an attack instigated due to a racial remark, but Barboza denied it completely.

She claimed that she did not have even a single racial bone in her body and had said nothing racist to provoke the attack. According to her, the women got agitated because she cut them on the road.

She further added that people who know her know that she is not at all racist. They felt disrespected because Barboza had cut them off. They began yelling at her on the road itself and it was out of fear for her safety that she pulled into the parking lot which was close by.
